ÖGfE survey: 25 years after joining the EU, approval for EU membership in Austria is high

25 years after Austria’s accession to the European Union, approval for EU membership is high and the number of those who would opt to leave the Union has never been so low. Even though Austrians have an ambivalent view on individual integration steps, public opinion on European issues is more positive than it was five years ago – on the 20th anniversary of Austria’s EU membership. These are the results of a current survey by the Austrian Society for European Politics.

Background:

The survey was conducted by Sozialwissenschaftliche Studiengesellschaft (SWS) from 25 November to 6 December 2019 on behalf of ÖGfE (Tel SWS 288). 519 persons were interviewed by telephone (representative of the Austrian population aged 16 and older / weighted according to gender, age and education). Maximum fluctuation range approx. +/- 4.3 percent.
